Meet The Supplier - Papeterie Crafts Wedding Stationery

We recently had a chat with the lovely Charlotte from Papeterie Crafts Wedding Stationery...

What's your business called and who makes up your business, introduce us to the people in your business?

Papeterie Crafts Wedding Stationery. We have a team of 5 in the shop at the moment. Charlotte Mitchell is the manager and Debbi Glennie is our lead wedding consultant.

Tell us about your business, what services do you provide for weddings, are these available for other events or occassions?

We are a stationery business based at Stoneywood paper mill. We are the largest independent craft shop in Scotland and are proud to be the winner of Best Craft and Creative Business Scotland 2016.
We are slightly different from other stationers with what we provide our customers with. We offer a free no obligation consultation in our dedicated studio, which has literally hundreds of invitations. At the consultation we discuss the client’s ideas for their wedding, show them the samples we have and discuss how we can create the stationery that is perfect for them. We then design a free of charge custom sample for them.
We can supply everything from save the dates to invitations, table plans and even quirky signs.
These services are not exclusive to weddings we cover birthdays, anniversaries, christenings and corporate work.

What's your favourite part of the job? Is there a part that you really look forward to or enjoy?

I absolutely love working with clients to create their dream stationery and hearing their ideas for their wedding. I love a challenge and find it great when a couple come in and say oh I’ve got a bit of a quirky idea. As each and every couple are different each day is different in the shop so there’s always a new challenge which is great.

What sets you apart from your competitors? Why should prospective clients choose you over your competitors?

We create invitations for our clients rather than saying this is what we have and you can change the colour. We also offer a DIY package. Some people look at me like I have 2 heads when I first suggest the DIY option but it’s a great option for people who either want to save a wee bit of money, get more involved in the creative process or simply want the satisfaction of saying they made their own invites. With our DIY packages we print everything, cut everything, score everything, provide all materials needed and show the clients how to put them together. All they need to provide is a smile.
One of the things that really sets us apart is that there are 2 main designers who can both put their creative spin on things so you are not limited to one person’s imagination.

Do you have an unusual, interesting or funny story about your business/previous clients?

One of the weddings which always stands out in my mind is an appointment where the couple wanted their invitations to be based on their tattoos and to show me his tattoos the groom took off his top in the wedding area. That was definitely an unusual day.

Which wedding exhibitions are you attending in 2017?

D2Weddings at the Beach Ballroom
Hallmark Hotel, Dyce
Village Urban, Kingswells
Glen Tanar Ballroom
Lochter
Barn @ Barra Castle
And will had our own open day on Sunday 28th January with more to follow later this year

Have you won any awards or accolades? what for and when? Do you have a claim to fame? Have you worked for a celeb?

We are very fortunate to have won some amazing awards in our time:
Most recently we have are a finalist in the Aberdeen Business Awards 2017 and Visitor’s Choice Best Stand at YWE at the AECC in January.
As well as:
Top 5 Wedding Stationer in the Confetti Awards 2017
Best Craft and Creative Business Scotland at the Scottish Business Awards 2016
Best Craft and Creative Business Aberdeen 2016
Achievement of Excellence from British Airways for work with their charity
Best Craft Shop Scotland
Best Independent Craft Shop Scotland 2013, 2014, 2015
We have also received a highly commended from the AECC organisers for our exhibition stand.
Along with the shop awards I have been featured as a Best of British Card Designer. Both myself and Debbi have had numerous work published in international craft magazines.

We have designed and made invitations for Aberdeen FC players.

Do you have a top tip(s) for couples getting married in the North East of Scotland? Is there something couples often forget?

A top tip for stationery is to be organised. It may sound like a simple tip but stationery takes longer to organise than people realise and it is the first indication people will see of your wedding so you want to get something you are definitely happy to send.

I recently got married so now see things for weddings from both a suppliers perspective and a Brides, and I would say that my top tip is not to get stressed out and make sure your day is about the pair of you and what you want not what someone else wants you to have.

Meet The Supplier - Alba Bagpipes

This week we had a chat with Rikki from Alba Bagpipes, Rikki also established The Little Wedding Book
What's your business called and who makes up your business, introduce us to the people in your business?

Piper Barry Evans – Proprietor (Owner)
Piper Rikki Evans – Co-owner
We have 4 other professional pipers we use however have at our disposal approximately 20 professional pipers to call on.

Tell us about your business, what services do you provide for weddings, are these available for other events or occassions?

Alba Bagpipes was established in 2010 and has very quickly become one of the leading piper hire companies in the North East of Scotland.
All of our pipers have at least 15 years piping experience and pipe with some of the top pipe bands in the North East of Scotland which include, Portlethen & District, Grampian Police Scotland and Buchan Peterson.
We offer 2 wedding packages which both include the piper using small pipes which are perfect for piping the bride down the aisle and playing during the signing of the register.
Our packages are - Full Scottish (Full Day) & Wee Dram (Half Day)
Key stages where our pipers perform include;
Pipe for 30 minutes to greet your guests (Full/Half Day)
Pipe to welcome the Bride (Full/Half Day)
Pipe the Bride down the aisle (if required) – smaller quieter pipes can be used for this (Full/Half Day)
Pipe during the signing of the register if required again with the smaller pipes (Full/Half Day)
Pipe couple back up the aisle & play for 15 minutes at the conclusion of the ceremony (Full/Half Day)
Pipe to greet the guests on arrival to the reception venue (Full Day)
Pipe to greet the Bride and Groom on arrival to the reception venue (Full Day)
Pipe the Bridal party into dinner (Full Day)
Pipe the Bride and Groom into dinner (Full Day)

What's your favourite part of the job? Is there a part that you really look forward to or enjoy?

We enjoy speaking to couples before their big say with discussing all the details of their day and where the piper fits in.  We love seeing the couples day unfold after discussing so much with them prior to the day.  Piping outside some stunning venues is also a favourite because Scotland really does have some amazing venues with lovely views.

What sets you apart from your competitors? Why should prospective clients choose you over your competitors?

Alba Bagpipes promises and delivers nothing but professional pipers with nothing less than 15 years piping experience.  Unlike some other piper hire companies our players all play or have played in the top pipe band grades in the world and compete against the best pipe bands in the world..  We are professional from the initial contact through to the final contact.  We also offer the small pipes for indoor playing such as walking down the aisle & signing the register at no extra cost.

Do you have an unusual, interesting or funny story about your business/previous clients?

Piper Rikki says – “I do remember piping outside the Old Mill Inn when I was approached by the photographer advising there is going to be a delay.  The best man had left the rings at home in Aberdeen.  He finally made it back 45 minutes after the ceremony was due to start.  I thought this type of thing only happened in the movies!”

Have you won any awards or accolades? what for and when? Do you have a claim to fame? Have you worked for a celeb?

Our biggest achievement which we like to shout about is my Guinness World Record title.  The actual title is - 'The Longest Marathon Playing Bagpipes' and was achieved in August 2015. I was able to fundraise £7500 for 5 different charities.  Total record time is 26 Hours, 5 Minutes 2 Seconds.

I was also the piper for a BBC drama series called Stonemouth.  This aired on BBC 2 in March 2015.  I was featured piping outside the MacDuff Parish Church for a funeral.

Do you have a top tip(s) for couples getting married in the North East of Scotland? Is there something couples often forget?

Best tip I can give couples is book your piper at the earliest opportunity.  We will never overbook ourselves and we often run out of availability when couples try booking us last minute.  One reason we don't overbook is because we feel you lose that personal touch with our clients if we have too much weddings for 1 day

TLWB Wedding Fayre - guest blogger

We have a guest blogger today with a run down of our successful wedding fayre on Sunday, please welcome Audrey who is studying Event Management at RGU......

Happily Ever After

/!\ Warning: This is the unbiased Point of View of a 1st year University student who happened to have the chance of taking part in this event! /!\

No love story would be complete if it wasn’t for a shiny, lovely wedding. This is the first day of the rest of your lives!

Yesterday was finally the big day for all couples looking for help to get the perfect wedding as the long-awaited Wedding Fayre was held in Elphinstone Hall in the University of Aberdeen. It was an opportunity for them to engage with their eventual future florist, or maybe for the bride to meet the one who will be styling her hair or doing her makeup to transform her into a real princess.

As someone who took part in this event, I would like to share this day with you, for those who may have missed it, or those wanting to reminisce it!
And I believe there is no better way to share it with you than showing it to you!

The Wedding Fayre took place in Elphinstone Hall, an absolutely gorgeous building in the University of Aberdeen.

The stage was set up to match the theme of the day, and music was playing to enlighten the mood!

If you were looking for someone to help you through the planning of your wedding,
Taylor Made Events was here!

The Papeterie was present to make sure you got the right wedding invitations that matched your tastes and needs!

If like me, you never have an idea what to do with your hair, no worries! The talented Marianne Gibb Hair was also here!

Obviously, there is no such thing as a wedding where no one dances, and I was excited to see the stand of ‘A Dance to remember’!

People looking for a cute, vintage themed wedding could also find their happiness here!

And Gosia Weiss was also here with demos to show the excited brides what kind of makeup look she could give them on their special day!

I was also enchanted by the beautiful flower arrangements.

But let’s be honest, okay? Here is the one stand that got me REALLY excited. I mean, look at these cakes! Not only could couples have a look for their future wedding cake, they could also taste some of the adorable tasters. I’m not a man, but the way to my heart definitely is through my stomach.

Alba Bagpipes was there and did several demonstrations through the day! As a foreign student, it was a real excitement for me to meet a bagpiper and hear one! This definitely made me want to have a Scottish wedding!

Sillysnapz was also present to give everyone a chance to try their Photobooth and to go home with some tangible memories in hand.

Tables were also beautifully set to give the couples an idea of what kind of set up existed…

…and more! There were many more suppliers ready to help the couples get their dream wedding!

Last but not least, all visitors got an entry into a Raffle that had some very exciting prizes!

Overall, it was a really good event with exciting opportunities and a charming venue! Thank you to all the people who came and took part in it, as well as to the exhibitors!
