Winter Brides Hairstyles - What's Hot!

Today we are joined by Marianne from Hair - Marianne Gibb, she has a few suggestions for hair-ups for Winter Brides ......

Winter Brides brrrrr!

After booking our own wedding for December, I'm thinking about the weather mainly - will it be dry, wet or snowing etc.
Well, when it comes to hair, my professional opinion on how to make sure the style will be OK, no matter what the weather, is KEEP IT SIMPLE.

Something up and smooth? There is a huge variety of hairstyles out there but I write to you with my personal choices and how you can jazz them up for that wintry feeling.
How about a low classic and beautifully elegant chignon as pictured below?

This style is normally created with a lot of back combing or padding which gives it extra structure to cope with the North East gales, adding a plait over the top will give some decoration, or you could pop snowflake pins in the hair or even wrap a pretty mistletoe vine around where the plait is placed.
How about a high bun with a few loose curls this is shown on a flower girl in the photo, there again could be holly, snowflakes etc pinned in to the style.

The thing I love most about these two styles is that if you're going for a fur collar, jacket or cardigan to keep you warm at least your 'do' is out of the way as well. They are simple yet very effective, can be decorated in different ways so not for Winter, but they're my favourites.

Real Life Weddings - Charlotte & James

Welcome to our very first Real Life Weddings features, and what better way to kick it off than with one of TLWB's own suppliers....

photo credit : Deeside Photographics Charlotte-Jane Mitchell, manager of Papeterie Crafts met James Ainscough in the queue of Aunty Betty's ice-cream boutique in Stonehaven, although they almost didn't meet at all because Charlotte was on the phone to work while she stood in the queue. But cupid struck and James got his chance and charmed Charlotte with his unusual accent - he originally hails from Ormskirk but had travelled widely in the R.A.F,
Fast forward eight months and James whisked Charlotte away for a romantic weekend away to celebrate her birthday at a stately hotel in Edinburgh where he planned to propose at Edinburgh Zoo, but he was so nervous that he couldn't do it there, or later at the restaurant and because he was acting funny, Charlotte thought he was breaking up with her. But once again, cupid intervened and James got them upgraded to the honeymoon suite at the hotel, told the staff he was going to propose so they delivered heart shaped pizzas and champagne on room service and James got down on one knee and proposed.

So then the serious wedding planning started and the couple's first priority was securing their venue, they visited Maryculter House Hotel, instantly fell in love and secured it for the May Day holiday weekend to make it easier for James' family and friends travelling up from Liverpool.
The next thing on the list was deciding a theme, and the couple had no trouble with this.... their first date was to the cinema to see Spiderman so they wanted to incorporate that as well as Charlotte's favourite colour being red, which tied in rather nicely with James supporting Liverpool FC and of course Charlotte can't resist a bit of bling.
Because Charlotte works in the wedding industry herself and being manager of Papeterie Crafts, she was always going to be making her own wedding stationery, all featuring their red colour theme and lots of lovely, sparkly bling.

The bling carried over into the venue styling, and Alison from North East Events helped Charlotte to choose sparkly table cloths, crystal chandelier centrepieces as well as chair covers and sashes which Charlotte accented with red napkins folded into roses and red glittered wine glasses she had done herself.

The creativity didn't stop there and Charlotte managed to create a whole host of clever finishing touches from Hangover kits for guests staying over at the hotel, to Doric to Scouse phrase books to help the guests mingle, and lots of other special touches including her own brooch bouquet.

Charlotte organised Hair-Marianne Gibb to style hair for some of the ladies of both families  and the flower girls for the ceremony while the bridal party were getting ready.

Not done there with all her finishing touches, as well as a "pimp your prosecco" bar, and ice cream cart Charlotte had also enlisted SillySnapz to provide a photobooth, vodka slush machine, popcorn and candyfloss and a hotdog cart for the end of the evening so that the guests had something to eat while they travelled home on the coach.

And as a special present for her new husband, Charlotte had secretly organised a Pipe Band from Alba Bagpipes and a spectacular fireworks display from Fireworx Scotland across the river.

We asked Charlotte what advice she would pass on to readers who are planning their own wedding and she replied "I would say that if you can get a discount or special offer for your wedding then take it. We saved money using The Little Wedding Book suppliers and it maybe didn’t seem like a big saving at the time but it soon mounted up to a great saving over the course of our wedding."

many thanks to Charlotte & James for sharing their special day with us, and wishing them many happy years together x

As you know, this was inspired by the wedding that WAS dubbed the most boring wedding ever, that of Whitney and Lee on Eastenders last week. But the suppliers at TLWB can and will ensure that your wedding is anything but boring.

Today we're focussing on all the entertainment and extras suppliers that add the finishing touches to your special day.

So firstly we'll introduce you to Alba Bagpipes, who will supply what every Scottish wedding needs, a professional musician to pipe in your guests, pipe you down the aisle and in to your first meal as man and wife.

While you're off getting photographs taken after the ceremony, or for after the meal or during the reception you'll want to keep your guests entertained, well we have quite a few suggestions for you...

First up, how about a caricaturist? Lyn at Picky Pencil is a professional illustrator specialising in cartoon work and enjoys nothing better than sketching caricatures for your guests to keep.

What about a magician? Fifth Dimension specialise in close-up, interactive magic to amaze your guests.

A Sweetie Cart appeals to all ages, not just the kids and we have the perfect supplier: The Sweetheart Cart provide a variety of packages to suit all budgets

A photo booth is another popular addition to weddings nowadays, personally I hate my photo being taken, but even I can't resist a photo booth - they're such fun, and we have SillySnapz with their selection of photo booths to suit all themes and occasions.

So now e're moving on to the evening entertainment, and we have a fabulous DJ who will cater to all tastes and make sure the dancefloor is never empty, DJ Stephen Jackson who also works at Original FM

And finally, the fitting end to a wonderful day, celebrate in style with a personalised fireworks display from Fireworx Scotland.

Most Boring Wedding Ever? Not With The Little Wedding Book! Part 2

Welcome to the next instalment of our "NOT the most boring wedding ever" feature, in case you didn't see Monday's post, I was inspired by what was dubbed the most boring wedding ever on Eastenders recently, the wedding of Whitney and Lee.
Today we're introducing some of the suppliers from TLWB that will ensure your wedding is anything but boring.

So who should you be looking at booking next? well if you don't have the time, or you need a hand with the planning then we have the wedding planner for you, Jill at Taylor Made Events has a host of different packages to suit the level of involvement you need, from a little assistance to a lot.

And of course you'll want to talk to a venue styling specialist for all your chair covers, chair hires, table centres, flowers, sweet tables, table linen and everything in between, and we have the amazing Alison at North East Events to help you

Next on our list is a florist, whether it's centrepieces, venue decoration or corsages and buttonholes then the place to go is Sweet Peony in Maud.

Another important part of the day is the cake and Cake That And Party is where Emma's creativity will ensure you get the cake you wished for.

Candles and Favours are something that are often overlooked until later but Andrea at Haven Scent suggests you book early to avoid disappointment.

Turning our attention to Mother of the Bride, Groom and other guests, we have a supplier that can provide the perfect outfit, Encore Dress & Vintage Agency at Fettercairn

Finally for today, no guest, MOB or MOG outfit would be complete without a hat and Jayne at Pear Tree Hat Hire will ensure you get a hat to match your outfit to perfection,

Look out for the final part of our feature on Friday where we'll be featuring "on the day" entertainment and extras.

Most Boring Wedding Ever? Not With The Little Wedding Book! Part 1

Now, I'm not a soap fan, but I couldn't help but notice all the noise about the recent wedding of Lee and Whitney on Eastenders, it was dubbed the most boring tv wedding ever.
But one thing I'm sure about is that using our suppliers, you definitely won't have a boring wedding, anything but in fact

So where do you start? well a bride has to start with the dress doesn't she? We have just the place to find that perfect gown, at Happily Ever After in Ellon, where you can choose from fabulous designers like Christine Dando, David Tutera, Enzoani Beautiful, Tara Keely and Callista Bridal especially for curvy brides.

It's never to early to start the design process of the perfect stationery at Papeterie Crafts at Stoneywood Mill, Aberdeen to set the tone, from Save-The-Dates and invitations, right through to table plans and thank you cards

Another supplier to book early is your photographer, it's important to select someone you can relax with, and Zoe Rae Photography has that covered by getting to know couples and their story, which helps her to bring out the unique character of their relationship.

Because all eyes are on the bride on the big day, it's very important to book professionals to help you with hair, make-up and beauty.
So our Make Up Artist, Gosia Weiss who is reliable, experienced and can let your inner beauty shine through

Your crowning glory has to be perfect, and Marianne Gibb has the creative mind and artistic flair to create the perfect style for you.

And last but not least today, very few of us have perfect nails, but Mairi at Vanity Nails & Beauty can rectify that situation and leave your finger and toe nails looking amazing

So that's all for today, on Wednesday we'll be carrying on with suppliers that are part of the wedding planning process and suppliers that you should book next.

I also provide a bridal party dressing service to ensure everyone looks fabulous on the big day.

What's your favourite part of your job?

What sets you apart from your competitors?
